Organic Soap Making a Big Splash

Organic sales are booming far beyond the food aisles.

Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) August 8, 2006 -- Over the years, Linda Spano sought all kinds of remedies for her dry, itchy skin, with mixed but ultimately unsatisfying results. Then a friend recommended an organic soap he had been using. "I tried lots of natural skin products before this. But, I figured why not?" says the thirty-eight year old mother of two preschoolers. "Within two weeks my skin felt fine."

It's the kind of story the people at Paul's Organic Soap, the soap Linda switched to, have heard more than once. Paul's Organic is one of several fast-growing companies in the expanding organic personal care market. Organic soaps, moisturizers, toothpastes and the like are a relatively new phenomenon. For most of the past decade, attention has been focused on organic food, but some experts say that's about to change.

According to industry figures, the overall market for organic products is expanding at an average of over 50% per year, with projected global organic sales expected to be around $80 billion by 2008. A growing portion of those sales are in non-food products, such skin care, cosmetics and clothing.

While organic consumers used to be mostly older, high income individuals, they are now increasingly younger, with less disposable income but a greater passion for getting back to nature. Three of the fastest growing organic consumer groups are African-Americans, Latin-Americans and Asian-Americans.

A spokesperson for Paul’s Organic Soap reports that sales quadrupled in the second quarter of this year alone, and are expected to continue rising, adding “We have no idea how far this will go.”

If newly converted organic fans like Linda Spano are any indication, it may go very far indeed.
