New Nail Station Protects the Health of Salon Workers.

Dust from filing false nails can cause breathing difficulties or occupational asthma if inhaled. Nail products (varnishes, acetone etc) can also cause medical conditions if people are overexposed. A recently refurbished beauty salon is protecting the health of their staff by installing nail stations (tables) with integrated extraction systems from Purex.

Finishing Touch Health & Beauty Clinic was established on a sunny day in August 1988 by Susan Routledge. Located in the former steelworks town of Consett, Finishing Touch offers eleven treatment rooms and a team of ten dedicated therapists and a full time receptionist.

In recent years the clinic has been awarded a 4-Star rating from Institute Distingue - Salons of Excellence and following this were invited by Vogue to be featured in their salon guide. Finishing Touch is accredited with Investors in People and in 2004 were honored to be finalists in the Professional Beauty Awards.

The clinic has been extended to accommodate additional nail services and new nail stations were required. As Susan explains only the best would do, “I looked far and wide at nail stations for our clinic. They had to look good and be durable but most of all they absolutely had to have extraction.”

“When your nail technicians are working all day you have to protect them. As an employer it is my responsibility to ensure the welfare of my people so I started looking around for some nail stations with extraction.”

“After looking at catalogues and after a few demonstrations from other manufacturers I saw the Purex stations at a show. They instantly stood out from the crowd as an excellent system. The 4-way extraction gets all the dust and any fumes away from the nail technician’s breathing zone and the integrated work lamp is very useful.”

So, does having Purex Nail Stations make a difference? Susan knows so, “Our nail room is much, much nicer for our technicians and clients all round really. I was so impressed with Purex that I recommended them to Newcastle College (0191 2004600) which is a new £16 million purpose built facility offering dedicated training courses in nail technology. They loved Purex too and bought sixteen of them plus a centralised system for their nail bar!”
