» Before your laser eye surgery
Before the surgery, the doctor will examine the eyes to determine exactly what kind of vision correction you need and how much
laser ablation is needed. If the vision is still changing (worsening), it is not advised to undergo surgery. Possible eye infections
and diseases must also be cured before the operation - laser eye surgery may only be done on healthy eyes with incorrect refraction.
The actual surgery usually takes 30-120 seconds, and you're awake the whole time. Most people don't feel pain during PRK. The doctor
will have you lie down and then make sure your eye is positioned directly under the laser. (One eye is operated on at a time.)
A kind of retainer is placed over your eye to keep your eyelids open - normally this is not uncomfortable.
It may have a suction ring that keeps your eye pressurized and immobile.
