Vitamin Angels Launches Honduras Multi-Vitamin Program

Vitamin Angels, a non-profit organization designed to fight malnutrition and childhood blindness around the world, has launched a multi-vitamin distribution program in Honduras that will provide vital nutritional supplements to 55,000 school-aged children each year for three years. Vitamin Angels worked directly with the Honduras Ministry of Health and local school superintendents and officials in the city of Macuelizo to establish this program in which multi-vitamin supplements will be distributed to children in their classroom each school day, as well as anti-parasitics twice yearly. This program also includes an education component to raise awareness about steps that can be taken to improve nutrition, sanitation conditions and overall hygiene in the area.

“The ravaging effects of malnutrition are astonishing in this area, specifically in terms of stunting growth. Children who appear to be seven or eight years old by our standards in the U.S. are actually 14 to 15 years of age,” stated Howard B. Schiffer, founder and president, Vitamin Angels. “We have been running a children’s multi and pre-natal vitamin distribution program in a nearby region for the past four years, and you can tell immediately by their appearance which children have been receiving these supplements. We are thrilled to be able to reach 55,000 more children and give them the chance to lead healthier lives.”
