Source: http:/ CHARLOTTE, NC (PRWEB) August 10, 2006 -- For the second year in a row, Charlotte, NC-based Retirement Lifestyles magazine has been named one of the top magazines in the United States that are written for a 50+ readership. Competing against national magazines, Retirement Lifestyles won two awards by the judges of the 2006 15th Annual National Mature Market Media Awards. “Our staff is obviously thrilled to be recognized on a national level,” said Publisher/Executive Editor Dan Owens. “We have always felt like our regional publication competed favorably with the likes of AARP and other national publications, but it’s always nice to have a panel of national experts tell you so.” And, AARP, the largest circulation magazine in America, took the Gold Award for best U.S. magazine. As in the 2005 contest, Retirement Lifestyles won two Merit awards competing with magazines of unlimited circulation. In addition, a story in the September/October, 2005 edition written by Publisher/Executive Editor Dan Owens was also recognized as one of the year’s top magazine, newspaper or newsletter articles for 50+ readers. The article recounted Owens experience in organizing a fly-fishing trip to the North Carolina Highlands for his father-in-law. Retirement Lifestyles has a national circulation of 40,000 and targets those who are considering relocating or retiring to the Carolinas, Florida or Georgia. The National Mature Media Awards is the only awards program that honors publications, advertisements, print and broadcast reporting, and other ancillary media that are targeted to a mature audience. Retirement Lifestyles competed in a magazine category against much larger national and regional magazines. Over 1,200 total entries in a number of categories were received for the 2006 awards program. The nine-year-old magazine was launched as a annual tabloid newspaper in 1997, but was converted into a slick, every-other-month magazine in 2003. In the 2005 awards, the magazine was also named one of the top 50+ magazines in America.
