TreatmentCenter.co.uk news Case Study on Johns Hopkins' Use of RASMAS to Improve Recall Management Processes Wins Prestigious American Society of Business Publication Editors Silver Award Jul 27, 2006 Mitretek Systems Congratulates Materials Management in Health Care Magazine and Author Alan Joch for Award-Winning Product Recall Article Source: http:/ FALLS CHURCH, VA (PRWEB) July 27, 2006 -- Materials Management in Health Care Magazine won a silver Azbee award from The American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) for Alan Joch's November 2005 case study detailing how Johns Hopkins Health System improved its recall processes using the Risk And Safety Management Alert System (RASMAS). Joch's award-winning case study, "Keeping Tabs on Product Recalls," tells how an incident involving a recalled bronchoscope prompted Johns Hopkins Health System to search for better ways to handle medical product recalls and how they collaborated with Mitretek Systems in the development of RASMAS, a web-based automated product recall management service. The article also discusses the dramatic time savings, greater alert management efficiencies, and increased cross-department collaboration Johns Hopkins has realized since it began using RASMAS enterprisewide. As a result of implementing RASMAS, Bill Kennett, Johns Hopkins Health System Senior Director of Corporate Materials Management, states, "When we have the next significant recall, we're confident we will respond to that quickly and effectively." Joch also quotes Johns Hopkins Health Systems', Roy Shipley, as saying that one of the most important benefits that RASMAS has given Hopkins is that "if someone from [Johns Hopkins'] risk management calls us six months after an alert. We can do a keyword search and very quickly find a document with the alert date, the notes I forwarded to our biomedical technician to take care of the problem, and the date that I closed it. That's great for any legal issues that might come up." The entire article is available on The Materials Management In Health Care's Web site at http://www.matmanmag.com/matmanmag/jsp/articledisplay.jsp?dcrpath=MATMANMAG/PubsNewsArticleGen/data/0511MMH_FEA_CaseInPoint&domain=MATMANMAG The Azbee awards are presented by ASBPE, a professional association for full-time and freelance editors and writers employed by business, trade, association, and professional print magazines and newsletters and their associated digital/Internet publications. The competition is open to U.S.-based business-to-business, trade, association and professional magazines, Web and newsletter/E-newsletter publications, and their editorial and design staff and contributors. Competition entries, evaluated by experienced judges with background in business publications, were judged on quality of writing and reporting, depth and breadth of information, quality and use of sources and source materials, value to the reader, presentation and other criteria. Joch's case study about Johns Hopkins Health Systems use of RASMAS was entered into an Azbee category that required authors to submit a complete article about how a single organization defined a problem and applied technology, equipment or management techniques to solve it. He received the Silver Award in the editorial category of best Case History in the Midwest-South Region in the 28th Annual Azbee Awards of Excellence competition.
